Carroll brings legislative, military experience to Scott campaign
Posted by admin / Under Scott W. RothsteinState Rep. Jennifer Carroll will be announced as Rick Scotts running mate this morning during a news conference in Jacksonville. A source close to the campaign confirmed to The Times-Union Wednesday night that Carroll, of Fleming Island, is the choice. Neither Scott nor Carroll could be reached for comment. The news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. outside Jacksonville Naval Air Station. Carroll is a Navy veteran and has represented parts of Clay and Duval Counties since 2003. Many politicians from around the area say that politically, the 51-year-old lawmaker makes sense as Scotts running mate. I just really think...

Republicans Bridging the Rick Scott Divide
Posted by admin / Under Scott W. RothsteinLast week, establishment Republicans worked against Scott. This week is different. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, head of the Republican Governors Association, is now backing Scott. He endorsed Scotts opponent, Bill Mccollum in the Republican primary election. "Everyone knows we want business-people moving into this state, expanding businesses in this state and opening their businesses in this state, Scott told the heavily Hispanic crowd inside the Jorge Mas Canosa Youth Center.
Rick Scotts Best Picks for Lieutenant Governor
Posted by admin / Under Scott W. RothsteinIn my last column, I wrote about the national importance of keeping the Florida governorship in Republican hands during this redistricting term. The makeup of three or four US House seats are possibly at stake, which may at one point be enough to swing control of the chamber. Democrat Alex Sink made the best choice for her side by picking Rod Smith. Sen. Smith is the type of candidate who can gain swing voters. Sink will have problems, having served as President of Florida Operations of Bank of America and due to the fact that this is a Republican leaning...

Posted by admin / Under Scott W. RothsteinA Message From Glenn: "If you are like me, watching the news or reading the paper can be an exercise in exasperation. Its so hard to find a place that helps me make sense of the world I see. Too many important stories are overlooked. And too many times we see mainstream media outlets distorting facts to fit rigid agendas. Not that youve ever heard me complain about the media before. Okay, maybe once or twice. But there comes a time when you have to stop complaining and do something. And so we decided to hire some actual journalists to...
Scott may not be a Saint, but Sink is no Angel
Posted by admin / Under Scott W. RothsteinThe 2010 primary races are over in Florida, and the Republican primary nominee for Governor is Rick Scott. The race wasnt even close, with Scott winning in 53 of 67 counties. A win this big for a virtual political outsider should send a strong message to those who control the Republican Party of Florida. Unfortunately, that message isnt resonating with quite a few people. For the record, I am not a Scott supporter. I have issues with a guy who wants a job so bad that hes willing to spend $50 plus million on his own campaign for a job...

Parties Face Divisions in Florida
Posted by admin / Under Scott W. RothsteinFlorida Republicans extended a wary hand Wednesday to their new gubernatorial nominee, Rick Scott, who spent millions of dollars attacking them during the campaign, as Democrats reckoned with their own divisions in the race to lead the most populous battleground state. National and state GOP leaders began reaching out to Mr. Scott, a former health care executive who defeated the candidate backed by the party establishment, Attorney General Bill McCollum. Mr. Scott and his aides, meanwhile, worked the phones to arrange meetings with party leaders, some of whom had assailed his business record. "I'm the candidate for the Republican Party...
Scott upset ripples beyond Florida
Posted by admin / Under Scott W. RothsteinHOLLYWOOD, Fla. Millionaire businessman Rick Scotts surprise win in the Florida Republican gubernatorial primary Tuesday left both parties scrambling over how to cope with a candidate who possesses both glaring flaws and considerable assets. Scotts three-percentage-point victory over state Attorney General Bill McCollum transforms what would have been a relatively bland general election contest between two establishment politicians into a race that will offer a test of outsider strength in a season of intense voter anger. And it will play out in one of the nations largest statesarguably the nations most politically pivotalwith consequences that reach well beyond Floridas...
